Gurgaon residents continue to suffer due to power cuts
After celebrating Dussehra under the constant threat of power cuts, Diwali the festival of lights is likely to be ushered in with a similar situation, as the city is reeling under a severe power crisis.

ALTHOUGH THE government has promised that things would improve in the next couple of days, but sources reveal that situation is likely to remain the same for the next forthnight. At present, Gurgaon is getting 40 per cent less power, than the actual demand, and DHBVN officials have no clue as to when the power supply will be restored. An official revealed that a crisis like situation has developed because of lesser supply of electricity from the power plants. They admit that the power cuts are not due to the result of transformer failures or line faults in the city.

Whatever may be the reason but Gurgaon residents are suffering badly due to these cuts. Vijay Singh, who lives in Ashok Vihar, said that power cuts have made life impossible in the city. Singh, who runs a small factory making components criticised the government for failing to resolve the situation as work was being badly affected. Even in posh colonies, residents are suffering as many of the condominiums do not have power backup. Poor power situation in the city has also affected the working of the industry in Udyog Vihar with many of the units forced to rely on generators for production, which is an expensive proposition.

People are also questioning the Haryana government for failing to come to the rescuue of Gurgaon, while the city contributes half the revenue of the state. “Despite so much revenue generation, the power situation and bad infrastructure shows that government is not serious towards making Gurgaon a Millennium City”, Singh alleges.
