Initially, these lights will be installed near Rajiv Chowk as a pilot project and these will be put up on the medians. Each pole will have two 60-watt LEDs and these will emit light, which is not glaring and makes commuting more comfortable. LED lights have a longer lifespan as compared to the ordinary streetlights. This project is likely to cost Rs 60 lakhs but it will ensure that manpower required for maintenance and operation is quite less as the problems can be easily identified and rectified with the help of SCADA system.
A control room will be set up to monitor the functioning of these LED lights, and if the pilot project is successful, then it could be repolicated across the city, opined officials. It is pertinent to mention that non-functioning of streetlights has been a major problem in many parts of Gurgaon. All the sectors maintained by HUDA and MCG areas including the Udyog Vihars in particular are affected by the poor working of streetlights. People have been constantly demanding streetlighting as petty crimes are also more in areas, where this facility is non-functional.
