Gurgaon to get radio taxis soon: State government invites operators
Along with Faridabad and Panchkula, Gurgaon is a about to get its own radio taxi services. The state government, as per reports, have invited applications from operators for contract carriage permits. For people, who do not know what radio taxis are- they cabs with all the facilities and are available at a central number.

Gurgaonites require this kind of services as there are a number of commuters and migrants who travel a lot to and fro the city. The service will not only be important to them, but would also address the issue of low public vehicles in some parts of the millennium city and especially at times of emergencies.

As was reported by the, the announcement of such a facility was announced by the Haryana government as early as April 2011, but no progress was seen into the matter, until now. There are many other taxi services based out of Delhi, which comes in handy for the Gurgaon people, but the interstate border adds to the expensive cab fares of the people.

Manoj Khatri, secretary of the Gurgaon Regional Transport Authority (RTA) have made it clear that permits to contractors would be given according to three categories, which are economy cabs, luxury cabs and super-luxury cabs. The interested parties can apply through the Gurgaon Mini Secretariat office and these cabs would be allowed to operate within a 50 km radius of the district headquarter.

The cabs would be colour coded according to the category they belong to. The cars, which would be catering to the service would be Tata Indica and Indigo will come under the economy category, Toyota Innova under the luxury category and Mercedes and BMW under the super-luxury category. Essentially white in colours, these cabs would have a blue band for the economy cars, dark blue band for luxury cabs and golden band for the super luxury cabs.

Each operator in Gurgaon must own a total of 20 cars and the fare alloted for them are Rs 12.50 per km, for luxury cabs at Rs 20/km and for super-luxury cabs is Rs 30 per km. An additional 25 per cent shall be charged between 11.00 pm and 5 am. The fares are inclusive of all types of taxes and no other amount shall be charged from passengers.

Talking about the applications, Khatri also said, '' We have started inviting operators to apply for this scheme. We have no cap on the total number of operators each city can get, and expect this will bring some relief to passengers.''
