Gurgaon to host its first Indian Food Freak Award!
The Cyber City has put the food connoisseur population of Gurgaon on the map now. It has not only opened up more opportunities for the population to relish, but it has also showed what we already knew- Gurgaon loves it food. Adding another first to the city in the foodie world is the first 'Food Freak Awards', which would happen on 26 April 2014 at Westin, Gurgaon.

Started by a group of professionals in Gurgaon, this award would not only recognize the efforts of the restaurants, but also encourage the small food entrepreneurs in the city. Indian Food Freak is one of the biggest food blogs in India and they are hosting the award with SPAG Asia (a marketing communications firm in Gurgaon).

Pawan Soni, CEO and Partner of the group, 'Indian Food Freak,' talking about his love for food and the awards said, "It is an autonomous body and we are not profit driven but food is our passion. Everyone involved has a day job, which is not related to food. Through this award, we would know what Gurgaon thinks about their food."

Adding to it, he also said that they as a group review restaurants, eateries, pubs and bars across the city and they are have no reservations to call a spade a spade.

The awards has an impressive jury, who would judge all the eateries and choose a winner. The jury includes celebrity chef Kunal Kapoor, chef Sabyasachi Gorai, Pawan Soni, Aalok Wadhwa, Anoothi Vishal, Osama Jalali and Shivani Gupta. To add to the process, there is also a popular award segment.

"We close nomination on 15 March 2014, but till date we have received 150 entries. The response was so overwhelming that we had to include a number of new categories in the award section" said Soni.

The categories for the award is truly intriguing as apart from the usual 'Best South Indian,' ' Best Chinese,' they also have, 'Best Aahata,' Best Home Baker and 'Best Micro Brewery.' Talking about the categories, Soni said, "No one recognises the home bakers or the caterers, who supply us food in our offices. Through this award, we wanted to address the people, who forms the baseline of Gurgaon."

This award makes so much sense because Gurgaon is emerging as the food capital of the country, as Soni mentioned. Explaining, why Gurgaonites are so into food, he said, "Gurgaon has a population migrated from different parts of the world. These people are widely traveled and has been exposed much more to various things. We have so many expats communities in the city and this is the precise reason why Cyber Hub is doing so well. People in Gurgaon do not have emotional support and they do not have much to do. Hence they go out and eat." Adding to it, Shivani Gupta Managing Director, SPAG Asia, "Gurgaon comprises of some of the best restaurants and food joints, which provide the best establishment opportunities to the food and hospitality Industry."

The award sounds intriguing and is a very good effort around a commodity, which is loved and appreciated and adored by Gurgaonites.
