GURGAON IS now considered, globally, as one of the top destinations for the IT industry but as far as road accidents are concerned the situation is getting worse day by day. It is said that one person gets hurt in a road accident every one hour while one person dies every second hour of the day - isn't this shocking news?
AS PER figures available till 31.7.2012, in 213 days, 5674 accidents took place. Due to the accidents 2592 died while 5284 had major or minor injuries. The police registered 4529 challans of vehicles.
It is a matter of a grave concern why so many and so frequent accidents take place in the Millennium City. Are they due to rash driving, negligence, untrained drivers or un-maintained vehicles, etc?
Is our Regional Transport Authority serious and careful while issuing divining licenses and fitness certificates to heavy vehicles? Are they sincere and serious while performing their duties? Afraid not.
You can always conduct a survey of the highways, and will observe that most of the drivers are untrained drivers, and it's the cleaners who are the people at fault. The main driver drives for hours and hours at a stretch, and gets tired and thus trains his cleaner by handing over the steering to him. The police on patrol knows this fact very well but keep mum. There is no justification why this is allowed to take place.
Eighty per cent of the accident victims can be saved in case the victims are moved immediately to the nearest hospital.
