Gurgaon traffic police launches fare calculator app to empower citizens
In a bid to better the nuisance of exorbitant prices charged by private auto wallas in Gurgaon, the Gurgaon traffic police launched a mobile app on 25 June 2014. Called as 'Auto Fare Calculator,' this app aims to lessen the nuisance where an auto wala can charge anything and everything from the passengers.

Talking about the same, Bharti Arora, Joint Comissioner of Police, said, '' The Auto fare calculator is a part of the Gurgaon Traffic Police app and its main motive is to empower people of Gurgaon so that autos doesn't charge them whatever they like. This would also ensure safety of women in Gurgaon. The app would also tell the auto drivers that the passengers know the distance and the fare for that distance.''

When asked as to whether the auto drivers are also told about this app and what will happen, if they do not accept the passengers' words, Arora said, '' A passenger can always complain to the police and we are telling the auto drivers, as well, about the app so that awareness increases.''

The app made by Foetron Inc. has a two main options- Fare calculator and Price slabs. So even if a person doesn't know the correct destination and only has the total kilometers, then they can get the total money from the Price slab. On the other hand, the fare calculator has only two source destination for the time being- Huda City Centre and the MG Road. All Android and Apple phones would have this app and the app is also connected to the Gurgaon police website.

The only feedback is that the initial splash screen seems to take ages to go away..... in an emergency it may be crucial cause of few seconds delay.''
