Gurgaon's Epicentre gearing up for Lohri celebrations
Just like every year this year too Gurgaon's cultural hub Epicentre will be organising celebrations for Lohri on the evening of January 13.

IF YOU are in Gurgaon and want to celebrate Lohri, a festival welcoming the peak of winters, then you can do so in the city's cultural hub Epicentre in sector 44. The festival is generally celebrated by Punjabis, and festivities will begin from 7.30 pm onwards. The evening will witness folk and sufi music by a sufi singer Yakoob Gill and troupe from Amritsar, along with traditional bonfire and Punjabi khaana (food).

Traditional Punjabi songs will be the heart of the programme and people can sway to the beats of songs such as Sunder Mundariye, Sultan Bahoo, Ossey Rang Da Dhola, Heer, Chhalla, Jugni, Mast Kalander and many such songs which are identical songs of the festival.

People are invited in the celebration and seating will be on first come first basis," a spokesperson from Epicentre told this citizen journalist .

Every year not just in Gurgaon but in the whole of North India Lohri is celebrated with great enjoyment, and with traditional folk songs.

According to folk lore, in ancient Punjab, Lohri was celebrated on the eve of winter solstice day. It is for this reason that people believe that Lohri night is meant to be the longest night of the year, and on the day after Lohri, the lenght of the day starts increasing and it gradually becomes warmer.

People celebrate lohri having fire camp in the night with people enjoying, dancing and playing around fire and singing folk songs.
