IT HAS been reported that around 117 Government of India websites were hacked between the month of January and July in the year 2011. Sachin Pilot, who is the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, was very quick to state that they will look into the matter.
There are several steps that have been taken by the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology on the wake up of these websites being hacked. National Informatics Centre (NIC), which is primarily responsible for the various e-governance applications, has been advised to upgrade and improve their security as far as their hosting infrastructure is concerned. Various other kinds of measures have also been taken along with it.
Some of the important websites that have been hacked by various hackers is the Indian Army website, Bharat Sanchaar Nigam Ltd website, along with other governmental websites, which are of prime importance to the country as it contains a lot of information. It was even more embarrassing when Central Bureau of Investigation website was also hacked by some Pakistani group last year.
One of the security officials who are employed with the government says that these kinds of things will happen as many government departments do not follow the necessary procedure while undergoing audits about their websites.
