Half of Karnataka's children are malnourished
What future does a country have with half of its children suffering from malnutrition? Figures of children suffering from malnutrition in Karnataka brought this to the fore during National Nutrition Week observed from September 1 to 7.

NEARLY 50 per cent of the children in Karnataka suffer from malnutrition and majority of deaths among infants and mothers occurs due to these deficiencies.

This was disclosed by a Karnataka official during a state level symposium organised to mark the National Nutrition Week observed from September 1 to 7. A number of similar symposiums were organised across the length and breadth of the country to mark the nutrition week.

The health officials also said that Rs 625 crore was spent annually on integrated child development programme.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has, for the first time, decided to conduct Intensive Malnutrition Survey in all the districts of the state. The survey will include the names of malnourished children, their complete health report and the government programmes, from which they benefit.

The survey aims to find out the degree of malnutrition in the state and to find out the efficacy of the various health programmes run by the government. In this regard, the government has also sent instructions to the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), to conduct a district wise survey.
