FORMER NEW York Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor,51, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to an indictment that alleges he had sex with a 16-year-old girl in a New York hotel room.
He was charged by jury with third-degree rape, accusing him of intercourse with a 16-year-old girl, engaging in oral sex with a minor and third-degree criminal sexual act. Taylor who was one of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history was arrested on May 6, after the girl's uncle called New York City police. Defense attorney Arthur Aidala said Taylor would challenge the girl's recognition of him. Aidala also said the defense would look into whether all statements made in the case were voluntary.Attorney Arthur Aidala said that his client's next look was scheduled for August 24 to set a trial date but he would not rule out a plea bargain."A plea bargain is likely at any time in any case,", but she further added that ,Taylor is looking forward to this trial going forward and putting this behind him and going on to live his life."Taylor is being fully supported by his family members, his wife sat in a front row of the courtroom during the proceeding and even his corporal friends are supporting him.Taylor headed the New York Giants to Super Bowl titles in 1987 and 1991. He was named the most valuable player of the National Football League in 1986 and Defensive Player of the Year in 1981, 1982 and 1986. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
