More than two thousand complaints of rigging in elections were registered with the 'independent election commission' nationwide, which clearly deteriorated the credibility of the presidential election in Afghanistan.
THE TIRING six months of the electoral process to elect new president of Afghanistan and the rampant corruption and mismanagement of the elections have made the things messy. More than two thousand complaints of rigging in elections were registered with the ‘independent election commission’ nationwide, which clearly deteriorated the credibility of the presidential election in Afghanistan. That was also the clear indication of how much the polity and bureaucracy in Afghanistan is corrupt, mismanaged, and people representing them are indulged in malpractices.
The so-called independent election commission was completely partial and was influenced by the Karzai and his government. This has given Taliban and other opposition forces battling against the government a clear understanding that the United States is meddling with the internal affairs of Afghanistan and the United States is trying to fulfill its own goal in the region.
People of Afghanistan and the world have seen Hamid Karzai, the President of Afghanistan, government’s mismanagement and corruption for the last seven years. Though he has been ‘elected’ for the second term in office after his contender Dr Abdullah Abdullah withdrew from the race, citing dissatisfaction over talks with the election commission to conduct free and fair runoff elections.
Hence, Hamid Karzai cannot be the people’s representative on the presidential seat, or democratically elected president, as elections were all the mess.
