Happy Birthday: A collection of short stories on people living in Mumbai and America
Happy Birthday is the latest offering by Meghna Pant, the author of 'One and a Half Wife.' She won both the audience and the critics with her first novel, which was a story based on immigration and marriage, and the war between the old India and the new India.

Her second book is a collection of thirteen short stories based on people living in Mumbai and America. The stories are different from one another and capture the crux of the human emotions. Meghna Pant beautifully portrays the predicament of a father who doesn’t know if his son belongs to him or his future father-in-law or the American tourist who comes to India in search of nirvana. The collection of stories has all the emotions wrapped in neatly knitted stories and characters.

Meghna Pant makes her characters real and gives you people who are neither good nor bad. They are humans, with their humanly problems. The influence of travel and the cities she has lived in is very much evident from the book. She manages to engross and entice you with all the stories she has written and yet you ask for one more.

The book has gathered great reviews from all the reviewers as well as the readers. The stories have been called ‘provocative and inspirational’ by Ashwin Sanghi, ‘deft and merciless’ by Jeet Thayil, and ‘surprising and moving’ by Chitra Banerjee. These are few writers who have already given their reviews, but as the book is still in the early months of release and knowing how Meghna Pant writes, this would win her many accolades and awards, like she won for “One and a Half Wife”.

Meghna Pant won the Muse India’s Young Writer Award for “One and a Half Wife”. The novel was also long listed for the Cinnamon Press Novel Writing Award; it made it to the top ten in Word Hustler’s Literary Storm Novel Contest, and also reached the second round of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. The novel was hailed a bestseller after the first few months of release.

Her second book was awaited with much anticipation and she yet again delivers with much flair. She has managed to keep all the stories fresh and original. Meghna Pant gives you the stories which are relatable, make you wonder, and ask questions that we would rather not dwell on. Her stories can’t be categorised in any one manner, and are perfect for people with inquisitive minds.

Meghna Pant with her stories leaves you with a profound effect. She is a finance journalist by the day and author by night. After her second novel, she has left her job and is devoting her full time in writing. Apart from being a keen reader, she is also an avid traveller. She is currently working on a full length novel and another short story book collection.
