He married Jaya Bhaduri and faced quite a complicated patch in his relationship with Rekha, who he allegedly had an affair with. Along with emotional problems he also had a near-fatal accident during the shooting of Coolie when he was doing his stunt for the film. He injured himself severely with a ruptured spleen. An immediate operation was the only solution and there were time in the months after that where he literally hanged from just a bare thread between life and death. Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and won by one of the highest victory margins in the General Election's history (68.2% of the vote). However, he had to leave it as politics was one thing that did not interest the man who was basically interested in entertaining people. The next phase of his life hit a new low as his company ABCL did not fare well at all. Initially launched to produce media devices such as CDs and other stuff, in dire need the company produced films as well. He lost almost everything of his life’s saving on setting up Amitabh Bachchan Corporation, Ltd. (A.B.C.L.) in 1996 but he is a man who always comes back. Somehow, he recovered from the losses, and in 2000, charmed the public with his TV debut with the mega hit reality quiz show Kaun Banega Croerepati.
