Happy Ugadi Gudi Padwa 2010 Wishes, SMS and Scrap
Ugadi is celebrated with festive fervor in Maharashtra, Sindh, Karnataka and Andhra pradesh. The word Ugadi or Yagadi came from two word yuga and aadi, yuga means era and aadi means start. Ugadi is the new year's day for the people of Deccan India.

This year ugadi marks the beginning of Vikruti Nama Samvatsaram as per Telugu Panchangam. Vikrutinama Samvatsaram is the 24th year among 60 years of traditional shalivahana shaka system of kaalachakram. Vikruti Nama Samvatsara March 2010 – April 2011 and the panchang contains all the important Information. The Panchangam is also available in Tamil and Kannada. It falls on a different day every year because the Indian calendar is a lunisolar calendar. The Saka calendar begins with the month of Chaitra (March/April) and Yugadi marks the first day of the new year.
 
This festival has many name , it is called Ugadi in Andhara Pradesh and Karnataka , in Maharashtra it is known as Gudipadava. And Sindh people celebrated the same day as their New Year day Cheti Chand. It is significant giving to celebrate bounteous crops as well as signaling the end of and old era and beginning of a new era.
 
On Ugadi day, people wake up before the sunrise and take a head bath after which they decorate the entrance of their houses with fresh mango leaves. The significance of tying mango leaves relates to a legend. It is said that Kartik and Ganesha, the two sons of Lord Siva and Parvathi were very fond of mangoes. As the legend goes Kartik exhorted people to tie green mango leaves to the doorway signifying a good crop and general well-being.
