Hard times and the saffron clouds
"People have always looked to the horizon and feared that which they did not understand. Initially, this horizon was the edge of the forest. Then, when forests became better explored and their dangers were realized as not actually being that serious, human attention turned toward the darkness of the sea. Then the sea became better explored, and the new horizon became the vastness of space. And now, with space getting ever better explored, a new horizon appears... in the form of the horrors humanity is about to unleash on itself."......Matt Kaplan, an American actor, singer, voice actor and musician.

I've never predicted that BJP would lose the coming election in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh or for that matter Shri Narendra Modi will not grace the Prime Minister's throne after 2019. India has been a democracy since 1947; it is still a vigilante-democracy and it is hoped that it would sustain as democracy in whatever form the countrymen would like it to be.

However, there is no denying that BJP has never had so bad a period as it is facing now. To call it 'interesting' would be mere euphemism. There were frequent contretemps in the political journey for every political entity but the bigger political bomb-shell for BJP was the exposure of Jay Shah's extraordinary business success in shortest time.

The episode climaxed in the form of Gujarat metropolitan court's order on Tuesday to a reporter and editors of 'The Wire' in a criminal defamation suit. It was filed by Jay Shah, son of BJP president Amit Shah. The court held that there was a prima facie case and ordered them to appear before it on November 13. Jay Shah had moved the metropolitan court after the news portal published a report on October 8, stating, among other things, that the turnover of his company Temple Enterprise Private Ltd increased 16,000 times in the year following the BJP's election to power at the Centre in 2014.

Another devastating moral blow was delivered by Tamil Nadu BJP's forceful demand to make certain cuts in Mersal's GST dialogues. BJP shot in its own foot and called for an avoidable controversy. Most of the free thinkers of the country were perturbed and felt it as return of Emergency clouds.

How big or small are the shocks given to BJP by three young men of Gujarat would be known only after the Gujarat election results. However, over the past couple of years, these young turks from the Patidar, OBC and Dalit communities have made quite an impact in Gujarat, so much so that the state BJP is worried and making notes to tackle them.

While Hardik Patel, convener of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) and Jignesh Mevani, convener of the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch have openly declared their anti-BJP stand, Alpesh Thakor, convener of the Kshatriya Thakor Sena who has already joined the Congress party, is yet to reveal his cards.

I have stopped watching most of the Indian TV channels long ago as these are no more news worthy. They are defying all norms of free and fair journalism.

Then last Monday morning, a bad news broke all around the BJP: Rajasthan's "media gag" ordinance. It has sent a chill through the spine of the nation.

However, all is well that ends well. At last, our dear Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh heralded the good news about the appointment of an interlocutor for Kashmir.

Again we find an example of foot-in-mouth disease. Three days after the Centre appointed former Intelligence Bureau Director Dineshwar Sharma as its special representative to initiate and carry forward dialogue with elected representatives, various organisations and concerned individuals in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh on Thursday said, "There is no such issue as Kashmir issue."

"Yeh interlocutor nahin hai, Kahan likha hai interlocutor, Kis order mein likha hai interlocutor (He is not interlocutor, where and in which order he has been mentioned interlocutor)," he added further.

In English, there is different meaning of every word, he said, adding that "Bharat Sarkar ne ek adhikari ko manoneet kiya hai, jaisey designated spokesperson hein humarey Brigadier Sahib. Yeh jo bolengey usko party ka man samja jayega, (Government of India has appointed an officer like we have Brigadier Sahib (Brig Anil Gupta) as designated spokesperson of the state BJP. What he speaks will be taken as the party's stand)."

The news channels that have taken up the onerous responsibility of catapulting 'all hue of Indian Nationalism' into the Indian brains were desperately flabbergasted. The interlocutor idea didn't please most of the news anchors. They had spent the better part of a year raging against the "Valley's Villains" and now Shri Narendra Modi wanted to talk to those "traitors"? Shri Arun Jaitley and Shri Ram Madhav have referred some Kashmiris as "dalals" in past.

Most of blathering demagogues of TV prime time have lost their bearing.

Apart from all these comedies and tragedies, the Mahanth of Gorakhnath Math and the Mukhya Mantri of Uttam Pradesh seems to be caught in the cleft stick. He was trying to soft-pedal his own past comments about Taj Mahal as well the diatribes of 'saffron club' against the seventh wonder of world – the symbol of Love Sublime with a short dash at the historical monument of impeccable marble.

Man proposes God disposes. His latest effort is frustrated by the horrible and shameful incident at the Fatehpur Sikri where a couple from Switzerland —Quentin Jeremy Clerc, 24 and his girlfriend Marie Droz, also 24 were allegedly attacked a group of hooligans on Sunday. It is reported that the group was following the couple and after the couple's refusal for a photograph they attacked them. The couple is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi. While Clerc ended up with a fractured skull and a clot in his brain, Droz's arm was reportedly fractured in the assault and she also suffered multiple bruises. Adding that the couple is in a state of shock, the doctor Dr Rajendra Prasad, neurosurgeon at the Apollo Hospital said that Clerc's condition is improving but it is difficult to say at this moment whether he has suffered permanent hearing damage.

Earlier in the day, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was in Agra to visit Taj Mahal, said that two attackers had been arrested in the case. "Two attackers have been arrested, and strict action will be taken against those (other people) involved in the attack. We have given instructions to police to strictly deal with such people. Our government will not accept such incidents," the chief minister said.

The incident has been condemned by the Centre and the state government. And we would hear more pious pronouncements of GHOR NINDA for a week.

However, nothing seems to bedaub the saffron tunic till now if you want to believe the poll-predictions. Even if the failing administrative indices in most of BJP run states or GST fiasco / demonetisation Gol Mal at the Centre do not invoke a serious thought in the Indian mind, we are in for more shocks!
