Hardik Patel to be face of Shiv Sena in Gujarat
Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel will be the face of Shiv Sena in the Gujarat Assembly elections. The announcement was made by the party chief Uddhav Thackeray.

Patel who has been leading Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) has been fighting for reservation for Patel community. Patel has been demanding that the Patel community be given reservation in government jobs and educational institutions under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota.

In July last year, Patel was charged with sedition charges following which Gujarat High Court had ordered that he be exiled for six months. He recently returned to Gujarat and restarted his agitation demanding reservation for Patels.

Shiv Sena, which recently ended its 27-year-old alliance with the BJP, has decided to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat on its own. Patel, now Shiv Sena's face in Gujarat, also met Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday at his residence in Mumbai.

"He (Patel) came to pay his tribute to Shiv Sena Pramukh Shri Balasaheb Thackeray," Aaditya Thackeray, president of Yuva Sena - the youth wing of Shiv Sena wrote on Twitter.

Making Patel the face of Shiv Sena in Gujarat seems to be a way of swaying the influential Gujarati community into its favour before BMC goes for polls.

Shiv Sena has been seen to attempt to contest polls outside Maharashtra as well, something the party has avoided till now. And making Hardik Patel the face of the party in Gujarat is being seen as a step in that direction.
