Harshvardhan Kapoor to play the role of Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra in biopic
It seems that these days Bollywood is intensely devoted to making biopics. The recent one is about Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra.

Harshvardhan Kapoor will play the lead role in the film. Harshvardhan Kapoor who debuted as an actor in Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra's Mirzya confirmed the news.

On his Instagram account he posted a pic in which both the actor and the Olympian are seen together smiling.

Harshavardhan, who had entered the world of Bollywood with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed Mirzaya, received mixed reviews but the film did well at the box office by earning 9.5 crore rupees against a budget of Rs 5 crore.

In a tweet Harshavardhan, who is Anil Kapoor's son and Sonam Kapoor's brother wrote, "Beginnings are very special. Especially when you get to play a character that has made the nation proud on world stage. I am stoked to have been chosen to play #AbhinavBindra and hopefully will do justice to the man, the legend!"

Abhinav Bindra was the first Indian to win a gold medal in 10m Air Rifle event at the Olympics in 2008 which was held in Beijing. He stood fourth in Rio games in 2016. Abhinav Bindra thereafter announced his retirement to give way to the younger generation.

Hindustan Times had reported for the first time about Harshvardhan's being signed for the film in December 2016. Reports said that the actor would be playing the role of the shooter. Anil Kapoor too spoke about it at the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards this June. He said, "It's too early to speak about the Abhinav Bindra film. Once everything is finalized, I'll talk about it. But talks are on. If God wishes, we (Harshvardhan and me) will do a film together and it could be this one. I am very excited to work with him, but it is too early to speak about it."

The film will be produced by Vishal Bhardwaj.
