Haryana minister Anil Vij shows generosity for Dera followers; wants compensation for the supporters killed in police action
Senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister in the government of Haryana, Anil Vij, has recently asked for compensation for Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim's followers who died in the police action on August 25 at Panchkula, when massive violence and arson broke out soon after the special CBI Court found the self-styled godman guilty in two 15-year-old rape cases.

Citing about the compensation which was given to the victims who faced the Jat agitation last year, he further argued saying, "So why not for the Dera victims?," as per the media report.

Earlier, Haryana police had released a list of as many as 43 wanted law-breaking individuals as well as ten photographs that showed how the agitators damaged vehicles including OB vans of news channels and pelted stones.

According to the media report, around 41 people were killed and more than 300 injured in Panchkula and other parts of Haryana, during the unrest after Ram Rahim was sentenced.

Anil Vij, who is the Haryana's Health and Sports Minister, is no stranger to controversy. Last year, Vij had made a controversial statement over the consumption of beef. He had said, "Those who can't live without beef mustn't visit Haryana."

In an another controversial statement, he claimed that Mahatma Gandhi's picturewas the reasonbehind devaluation of notes.

Anil Vij had also made a donation of Rs 50 lakh to the Dera chief last year. However, he had made it clear that he had donated the money to Dera Sacha Sauda and not to the Baba. Vij said, "Dera Sacha Sauda is already promoting sports for a long time and now BJP government will promote all sports related activities by making 20 Olympic Nurseries. In each Haryana district about 400 Nurseries (subsidiaries) will be set up."
