Haryana Minister calls farmers committing suicide as 'cowards' and rakes up twitter debate
The suicide of Gajendra Singh has opened up many debates about farmers. The much needed dialogue, has extended from the villages to the political parties and into our homes via the daily television debate we have. At such times, the political parties are playing it extremely diplomatic due to the sensitivity of the case, however there are some who do not understand the lose of life and has to make some foot in the mouth comment. This time it is Haryana's minister who have branded people who commit suicide as 'coward.'

Stating that people taking their own lives are cowards and do not deserve the government's support. OP Dhankar, the Agriculture Minister in the state's BJP government, said, ''Suicide is a crime. According to Indian law, suicide is a crime. A person who commits suicide runs away from his responsibilities. Such people are cowards and the government cannot stand by such cowards or criminals.''

On the other hand Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, as reported by had criticized the previous Congress government for not being sensitive to the cause of the farmer and had announced a compensation of Rs. 1,092 crore for those who have suffered massive crop loss. Other political parties were quick to retort to the comment made by Haryana minister OP Dhankar.

Talking about the same, Janata Dal United leader KC Tyagi said, ''I condemn O P Dhankar's comments on farmers. This shows the mindset of the BJP.'' Jyotirmay Scindia, Congress leader also said, ''Don't know what's wrong with this Govt, this is heights of insensitivity.''

On the other hand, even the common man is expressing their views on the matter via twitter, where OP Dhankar is trending. Surprisingly there were number of tweets in support of the minister and his comment.

A man tweeted, ''I don't think that whatever is Mr OP Dhankar had said is wrong...suicide is not a solution for anything.''

While there were others who understood the loss of a life and tweeted, ''Farmers who commit suicide r cowards, wont help them:Haryana minister OP Dhankar.This is what u get when govt's priority is cow than humans.''

Some people are also sharing their controversy theories and have tweeted, ''OP Dhankar has further added to the image Congress is trying to project, that BJP is anti-farmer. Perception is reality in politics.''
