After taking over as Inspector General of Police, Karnal range, Rajbir Deswal, has set a deadline of August 20 for the police officials of the district to put a blanket ban on illegal mining.
The IGP is reported to
have told reporters that he was getting reports that illegal mining
is going on at few places in the district. He told to reporters that
if police officials fails to do so then they should be ready to face
A million dollar question being asked in media, political and
administrative circles of Haryana is, ?Why this deadline?? If the
police is so sincere to curb the illegal activities which are playing
havoc with the state exchequer, then why not to put all those behind
the bars who are indulging in such illegal activities within twenty
What is needed is will
power to act against the nexus of cops, politicians and mafia. A
curious reading of local newspapers will explain that how illegal
mining is going on in the area under patronage of police and mining
department officials. Mafia is so powerful that on several occasions
they have crushed the cops under their vehicles.
Mining is done in night
with the help of JCB machines and material is carried in large
dumpers. If senior cops conduct raid in midnight they will come to
know to which extent illegal mining is going on. Giving deadline to
cops implies that they can patronize the mafia upto that deadline.
Vashisth, DGP, Haryana, while addressing a press conference had
claimed that stone mafia will be dealt sternly adding and those cops
who are patronizing the mafia will be sent behind the bars,
irrespective how much influential or big they are.
Vashisth had even
announced to appoint a full battalion to put a curb on illegal stone
mining in Mewat district and parts of Gurgaon district.
