Haryana police in damage control mode to cover illegal stone mining
The Haryana Police Sangathan and Constables and Head Constables' Association have alleged few months back and repeated the allegations last week that illegal mining was being carried out in Mewat and Gurgaon under patronage of top cops.
Even  if allegations of Police union  are dismissed dubbing them as disgruntled elements, the million dollar question being asked in political, administrative and media circle is that who are running the illegal activities of stone mining  and sand mining, which is a lucrative business for cops, mining officers and politicians cutting  across party lines.

Worried over the repeated allegations, as part of damage control exercise, S.N. Vashisth, Director General of Police, Haryana, recently convened a meeting of Police Officers of Gurgaon comprising of IG, Police of South Range Shatrujeet Kapoor, Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon Shekhar Vidyarthi and Deputy Commissioner of Mewat R.C. Verma.

Vashisth said that illegal mining and illegal transportation of construction material and overloading would be strictly curbed in Mewat district adding that for this, a full Batallion of I.R.B consisting of 700 Jawans has already been deployed and if the situation demands more Batallions would be sent but the peaceful atmosphere of Mewat region would not be allowed to be disturbed.

Independent police sources told that there is no need of posting of Battalion. It is only exercise of fifteen minutes. Stones are extracted by using JCB machines and transported in dumpers. Only few dedicated cops can puncture tyres of JCBs and dumpers found indulging in illegal mining should be impounded.

Stone is not gold which can be taken by hiding in buttocks and stomach. The need of the hour is that there should be no hypocrisy in words and actions of top cops. SP and IG of Police should conduct mid night raids. Now Haryana has battery of Director Generals of Police and one of them could be appointed as DG anti-stone mining force.

Question being asked is whether DGP is covering sins of others? Mewat district and Sohna in Gurgaon and Riwasan crusher zone  are epicenter of illegal stone mining where hundreds of dumpers and JCB machines can be seen carrying stones on roads. Posting at Taoru police station and Khori Chowki and Sohna Police stations are considered prize postings which is made by mixture of political and top cops nexus.

Politicians cutting across party lines are indulging in illegal mining of stones. DGP told that SP of Mewat has been appointed as Commandant of this Batallion, while adding that 300 Home Guard Jawans, who were receiving training at Bhondsi these days, would also be deployed soon in Mewat region who would keep watch on incidents of illegal mining alone.

Vashisth made it clear that strict measures will be taken to curb illegal mining in Mewat region and in any case, the stones extracted on account of illegal mining would not be allowed to come on roads. As part of measures, the trucks carrying legally crushed material will be issued stickers with hologram and barcode besides giving them properly stamped papers.

Every day the color of the sticker will be different. The trucks or dumpers found without these stickers would be treated as carrying illegal material and they will be challaned heavily under various provisions of law. The motive is to make their business enviable. Not only this the crusher owners will also be issued guidelines not to accept illegally brought stones.

Decoy sellers will be sent and if anyone is found accepting such illegal material, immediately FIR will be registered against the Crusher owner. Similarly, dumper or truck transporting stones illegally from Rajasthan would be nabbed on entering into Haryana territory.

Vashisth also stated that overloading and over speeding of trucks or dumpers carrying material legally would also be not tolerated and they will also be heavily challaned. They would be told to adhere to the speed of 50 kilometers per hour, the trucks and dumpers should have proper number plates affixed on them, the drivers should not be underage and should have proper valid driving license. Shockingly over speeding trucks cause accidents and deaths.

Vashisth said that for  implementing these measures Nakas will be placed at various places and joint inspection will be conducted by Secretary R.T.A, Mining Officer and Police officials. Perhaps taking cue from statements of chief minister Hooda, Vashisth said that  if  any official is found indulging in corruption, he would not be spared irrespective of rank or department and he would be sent behind bar.

This campaign will be carried out continuously and not for a short span of time. He said that the staff of Sohna police station will be completely overhauled and shifted. Vashisth said that  honest officials with integrity will be deployed at Police Stations of Sohna, Ferozepur Jhirka, Sector 55 Gurgaon, Dhauj, Pali, Nimoth Post and other sensitive places.

Vashisth has not explained that what is the criteria of choosing honest officials with integrity. Sand mafia is also active in the state under direct patronage of Cops, mining offices and politicians. Starting form Panchukula to Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Faridabad and other areas, such illegal activities are going on.
