Health benefits of beans
Many of us do not like to eat beans. However, it is essential to consume beans in our diet because of numerous health benefits. Beans are a unique combination of carbohydrates, fibers and vital nutrients.

First thing which makes beans a healthy food is that they are a very rich source of fibers and antioxidants. They are heart-healthy in addition to any diet, as they contain an abundant amount of soluble fiber, which can lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Generally many of our average diets lack fiber which is detrimental both to our heart and weight. About 100 grams of beans provide 7-8 grams of fibers.

Researchers and dieticians recommend at-least three cups of beans intake per week. Antioxidants found in beans also aid in preventing chronic diseases like cancer. They are also rich in water content which helps us feel full, in-spite of eating small quantities. This also helps in weight management.

Beans are rich in potassium, magnesium and other vital nutrients. This potassium and magnesium help in regulating blood pressure, which in turn reduces the chances of heart stroke. Beans contain the beautiful blend of complex carbohydrates, proteins along with a low glycemic index. Additionally, beans are an excellent source of protein; they become easy source of proteins for vegetarians, who do not get proteins through sources like eggs and fish.

We have to make sure that we eat complete protein meals. Typically Indian cuisine is rich with lot of beans in the form of variety of dals. Green gram, kidney beans, lentils, green peas, black eyed peas, chick peas, sprouts etc. should regularly be included in food in variety of forms. It can be gravy or dal or salad. Understand and value the beans, as they are a wholesome super-food for your body.
