Health care bill: Obama, Democrats continue lobbying
President Barack Obama and Democrat leaders have been working through several last minute deals, lobbying on the phones to get the Health care bill passed comfortably. Republican opposition also continues.
EVEN AS a reported crowd of 1000 protestors gathered at the Capitol Hill, voicing their opposition to the ambitious health care bill introduced by President Barack Obama, the pro bill Representative Bart Stupak claimed that they have secured more than 216 votes for the bill.
The health care bill which aims to bring in universal coverage and change the very way the American health care system functions till date has been as much a vision as a question of prestige for the President Barack Obama and the Democrat party. After the party lost in some high profile states, including Massachussets, the health care bill is one battle that they cannot afford to lose.
The health care bill also plans to ban insurers from denying insurance cover to anyone because of pre-existing medical conditions and cut deficit to the economy by $138 billion over ten years.
Till now, President Barack Obama has issued an executive order, assuring a few doubtful voices within his own party that no federal funds be used for elective abortions.
