Health Minister should set up office in SSH, GMCH to check accountability: J&K Shri Ram Sena
Patients visiting the Super Specialty Hospital and Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu continue to suffer because of the lack of proper equipments and they are made to visit private hospitals. This was stated by Shri Ram Sena's J&K State President Rajiv Mahajan in a press conference on Monday.
The SSH and GMCH remain deprived of basic machines required for diagnosis, he said, adding that even after a huge spending by the Government of India for improvement of hospital in Jammu, the authorities concerned have not been able to at least lift it to the standard.

Patients are being forced to shuttle between the GMC and the Super Specialty centre to get proper treatment, he said, adding that sufficient staff and doctors are not available in the hospitals especially during emergency.

Recently, we lost a brave soldier in Jammu, who suffered bullet injury in a cross border firing, he said, probably thanks to the poor administration and lack of most important facilities at the biggest Government Medical College in Jammu.

There was no experienced surgeon, capable of handling such cases, on duty and the cases were handed over to the junior doctors, may be some of them being PG students, he added.

Unsurprisingly, it is not the first case like this, he said numerous patients must be losing their lives every year in the GMC and other hospitals in the State due to lack of poor administration, lack of facilities and lack of experienced staff.

Out of them, many precious lives could be saved, provided the hospitals had facilities, and qualified and experienced staff, he suggested.

"From the time, Ch Lal Singh had taken the reins of the Health Ministry, there were visible changes in the cleanliness at the hospitals. Lal Singh paid many surprise visits to hospitals all over Jammu and Kashmir. The effort he is putting in needs to be lauded. His work is clean," said Mahajan.

He requested J&K Health Minister, Bali Bhagat to bring administrative changes in the health sector. He appealed to the minister to set up office and stay for one hour daily in SSH and GMCH for witnessing the accountability of staff and doctors as mere surprise visits won't improve the working condition of the hospitals.
