NH-5 is running through Cuttack city whose traffic is increasing with each passing day. During Dussera the traffic increases about 3 times the average traffic and during Baliyatra it increases more than 4 times! A cricket match between India and Australia is also scheduled to be held on 25th October this year!
As there is no alternative route inside Cuttack city, the district administration and police department are very concerned on upcoming and ongoing festive season. After lot of discussion, it has been decided that trucks should be barred to enter in the city between 6AM to 10 PM. Between 10 PM to 6 AM trucks can enter in the city and have to share only 2-lane Bridge which is divided equally by temporary ba>rricade.
A public notice in this regard is issued and will be published in print media. It is also suggested that trucks going beyond Cuttack can take alternative route during 6AM to 10 PM which is from Pitapalli via Trisulia, Mundali, Sarpeswar, Kakhadi, Ghantikhal to reach NH-42 near Khuntuni police station from where trucks can reach Manguli (NH-5) through Choudwar. This will be around 35 KM more distance to be covered.
The Old Taladanda bridge which was constructed during 1837 is to be completely dismantled and to be reconstructed as a new 3-lane bridge. This may take around six months starting from November 2013 & may be commissioned by June 2014. Till then this would be a great public inconvenience, but unavoidable.
