Henrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks star, was awarded the Hart Trophy of NHL most valuable player on Wednesday. He ended Alex Ovechkin's two year consecutive MVP march. Sedin had a league-best 83 assist was honored during the NHL's annual awards ceremony.

Ovechkin, Washington Capitals captain, was runner-up in the voting. Sedin called Crosby and Ovechkin the face of the sports and second to none, and said, “It's a strange feeling. I am very proud, so it is a great honor."
Sedin was at the top with 46 of 133 first-place vote, Overchkin with 40 and Crosby of Pittsburgh Sidney with 20 stood at second and third respectively. Sedin had 894 total points compared to Ovechkin’s 834 points. Sedin further appreciated the players and said, “I mean, I thought the Hart was going to be really, really tough. I thought that was going to be out of the question. But I am happy. I will take this.” Ovechkin, who was awarded top players award by fellow players said, “Life goes on, so it's OK. By the players – it is the most important thing.”
Ovechkin missed golden chance to be first three-peat winner of the Hart since Canadian great Wayne Gretzky’s eight straight from 1980 to 87. Sedin posted a career high 112 points, 30 more than his previous best. Crosby tied for the NHL lead with 51 goals and was second with 109 points. He won the Hart in 2007. Rookie of the year trophy was won by Buffalo defense-man Tyler Myers. Jack Adams Award to outstanding coach went to Dave Tippett of Phoenix. NHL’s top defense-man award, Norris Trophy, went to Duncan Keith of Chicago, while Detroit center Pavel Datsyuk won a third straight Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward.
