Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, 'Heroine' will release on Spetember 21, coinciding with Kareena's birthday. The film is based on the life of an ageing superstar Mahi Arora played by Kareena Kapoor. Ahead of the release the reality film specialist director Madhur spoke to the nnis. Awards and recognitions are not new for the director or his actresses. He has won National Awards too for his films Chandni Bar, Page 3, Satta and Traffic Signal. Known to make films around strong women characters, in his latest movies he somehow seems to be losing his touch.
Many critics, who follow the director's career path carefully feel that Corporate was in continuation of Page 3 and Fashion was in continuation of Corporate. Like Sidney Sheldon all his films are modeled around powerful, passionate women who see both the pros and the cons of the limelight. However, of late this formula has not been working for him.
Heroine is his magnus opus and he says that it is a dream come true for him to actually make the film. He hopes that Kareena wins all the adulation for portraying such a complex character as Mahi in the film. Kareena Kapoor also feels that it is one of her best performances. Talking to the press she said, “I have given it my all. It is a very very brave role to do - to play the role of a declining superstar. It might be something that someone at my point in career wouldn't have wanted to try out but for me I wanted to do the role and I wanted to work with Madhur.”
