The team of Enforcement Directorate on Thursday claimed to have arrested one person with 51 kg of heroin worth Rs.255 crore, 42 live cartridges and two magazines. The arrested person has been identified as Harmesh Singh son of Bhag Singh resident of village Swaike of Jalalabad in Fazilka district in Punjab.
Harmesh Singh was going on a motor
cycle with huge quantity of heroin so that no one could have
suspicion but Enforcement Directorate got this information and
arrested him. The ED sleuths who had laid naka near the Harike bridge
in the wee hours and intercepted the two men who were on motorcycle.
Harmesh was overpowered and two bags
containing the contraband were seized. On seeing the ED team, the
other person namely Resham jumped off from the bike and escaped.
According to DIG (G) RPF Jaswal, the
investigation is going on to know from where such a huge quantity of
heroin the duo have received. Seizure of such a huge quantity of
heroin has also put a question mark on the tall claims of vigilance
on the international border by BSF.
In the past few months, number of
consignments of heroin were being passed on in the Indian territory.
The recent recovery has proved that smugglers are more active than
the security forces.
