Speaking to the media in the Secretariat in Hyderabad, Dr Rao stated that he had submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of High Court in October, 2010 on EMAAR fiasco.
MINISTER FOR Textiles, Dr P Shankar Rao said on Tuesday in Hyderabad that the High Court has taken up his letter as a suo motto writ petition and issued notices to fifty two people, related departments and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his companies, believing that there were worthy evidences in the allegation that Jagan has amassed properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Speaking to the media in the Secretariat in Hyderabad, Dr Rao stated that he had submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of High Court in October, 2010 on EMAAR fiasco. He also submitted another memorandum in November 2010, on Jagan acquiring illegal wealth by misusing power since 2004. His second memorandum has come up before the High Court on January 24, 2011 for admission. The court, after hearing objections, has admitted the letter as a writ petition, on the ground of existence of prima-facie evidence in it and issued notices to all the concerned. The Court has posted the writ petition for further hearing on February 14. Replying to a question as to why the government itself was not taking action against people who indulged in such illegal activities, the Minister made it clear that he had submitted the memorandum to the Court when he was an MLA and not holding cabinet post at that time. The Government would take action as per the direction of the Court in the matter, he added. The Congress, under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, was fighting against corruption in the country, he claimed.
Showing sympathy towards Jagan as a person, who lost his father YSR, the Minister felt that Jagan was thinking like a kid and not acting like a mature person. When questioned whether he was not in favour of action against Jagan on the ground of sympathy, he maintained that the “Court and humanity were different things”. Dr Rao made it clear that he never criticised Jagan, but advised him to be loyal to the Congress high command. Comparing the Congress to a huge ocean, Dr Rao said that any leader going out from the Congress would not have any impact on the party. The leaders, who left the Congress, have become ‘Zeros” in the political scenario, he reminded. He said that as per the direction of AICC President Sonia Gandhi, the State Government has taken up welfare schemes—Rajiv Aarogyasree, free power to farmers, pensions, pavala vaddi and Rachabanda even in the scenario of economic recession. The Minister evaded answer to a question on the role of YSR in his son amassing properties through illegal means.
