High moral grounds of BJP and the '2- Complex'
“Hypocrisy is not a way of getting back to the moral high ground. Pretending you're moral, saying your moral is not the same as acting morally”…… Alan Dershowitz.

The moral high ground, in ethical or political parlance, refers to the status of being respected for remaining moral, and adhering to and upholding a universally recognized standard of justice or goodness. But the political parties seeking the moral high ground simply refuse to act in ways which are not viewed as legitimate and morally defensible.

Public memory is not conveniently frail and the slogan - “BJP, a party with a difference” could give is resonance even today. However, the election campaign of last Lok Sabha exposed the double speak of the party with a difference. Amit Shah, Giriraj Singh, Pravin Togadia – the BJP-VHP-RSS and many lilliputians were all out to disseminate the Hard Core Hindutva agenda of RSS while Rajnath and Narendra Modi were talking about development. Modi was shrewd enough to sprinkle the discussions with Bangladeshi Hindus and Hindu Rashthrawad. He was also throwing the tit bits of good governance and employment. Lurking behind this ‘iron fist in velvet glove’ Hindutva compaign of RSS, was a camouflage of delivering all-round development.

TV channels were flooded with ‘learned and well informed commentators’ who shot the verbal bullets at anyone who criticized RSS Hindutva. They called him anti-national and pro-Pakistan which is an old trick employed by the Sangh since its birth. The allusion to Pakistan is also meant to target the Muslim community which is always caricatured as being loyal to Pakistan. With the twist of words, Amit Shah's called for "avenging insults" which was literally mean for the consumption for a Jat audience in an area which witnessed the worst communal violence in recent times. It proved to be too smart and successful, a ploy to rouse communal hatred against Muslims.

The entire BJP leadership defended Shah by saying that he had only called for revenge by voting. Togadia came with a novel idea in their hate marathon - Muslims should not own houses in Hindu areas. Everyone knows that in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and other cities, Muslims cannot buy apartments in housing complexes which are for Hindus only. Ghettoisation and segregation have been put in place for the last few decades.

Election is over and the real battleground to deliver the promises is wide spread. The deeds do come home to roost. Black Money – the pet topic of RSS and Ramdev, FDI, Ordinance Raj, prices of essential commodities are few of the specters waiting to come out of their sealed bottles.
I’m not surprised when the prices of Diesel increased recently; I was not flummoxed when former TRAI chairman Nripendra Misra was appointed taking the route of Promulgation of an Ordinance. For the enlightenment of public, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said,"There is no issue at all. There is no controversy at all. My friends in the opposition do not have any other issue to rake up. The earlier law had a lacuna and Misra was appointed on the basis of his competence and track record.”

Let me put for records sake - The TRAI Act of 1997 prohibits its Chairman and members from taking up any job in the central or state governments after demitting office. Parliament is scheduled to meet on June 4, there was no immediacy which necessitated that the ordinance route should be taken.

Apart from these funny about-turns what fascinates it the TWO - Complex of BJP.
It has two power centers – one at Nagpur and other at Delhi; it has a Minister of State, an Ex-General who is associated with 2 dates of birth. It has a HRD Minister who claimed to have two educational qualifications in her declarations; it has a PM who had fought election from two places and had to give up one; it has a mother-organization which has its allegiance focused at two flags.

But to top the two-complex it has an Ex-Police Chief Satyapal Singh, now a BJP Member of Parliament from Mumbai who owns so MANY accommodations that he have had no time to visit them even once in years when he was in the city. The height of pre-occupation in the service of Nation affected an uncanny development of a prostitution racket allegedly being run from his flat. It has been busted and the apartment's caretaker arrested.

Acting on a tip-off, Social Service Branch sent a decoy customer to the 10th floor apartment in Patliputra Housing Society on Saturday night. Once it was confirmed flesh trade is being run from there, police raided the house.

Here again, two young women were rescued from the flat in suburban Andheri, which was raided on Saturday, police said on Monday. Now the subject is graduated from 22 to 33. The flat had been leased out to a well-known business house for 33 months and Singh said he is taking legal action against the private company for breach of contract.

And here is what the MP has to say, “Leasing out the flat is my only fault. I never thought the flat would be used for any such activities. I am taking legal action against the company. The lease will be over in September."

I believe he is innocent but he is careless to the hilt, a trait which could be the least desired of a police officer and I don't know. God forbid, what happens when he is a cog of the wheel of the Nation's Chariot.

Law grinds but slowly and the dance of democracy has a lot of interesting aspects. It is never boring.
