High rise buildings, transport facilities in Gurgaon are non-friendly to differently abled
Gurgaon has certainly come a long way in the last decade and continues to walk on the road of prosperity. When one steps into the the city, sky high buildings, swanky shopping malls and posh movie halls can be noticed effortlessly.

In short, Gurgaon has become synonym to a world class architecture. Although, even after witnessing a rapid development the authorities have missed out on providing adequate facilities for the physically challenged.

A normal person can simply walk-in to a shopping mall or a movie hall without any obstacle but have we ever given a thought about how physically challenged people struggle to step into any social centre or metro stations or any random building in the city. It is certainly a herculean task for them everyday.

Sufficient facilities like platforms for wheelchairs in shopping malls and theatres, elevators for the disabled, low floor buses, separate seats for the disabled in public transports and others are certainly missing out in Gurgaon.

“The Gurgaon authorities have always neglected the facilities for the physically challenged. There are no special arrangements for the physically disabled people in the city. The authorities never focused on the planning of the architecture and that's one of the key reason why the architecture of Gurgaon is so weak. It's so obvious that malls once established won't be renovated for the disabled,” said Dr. Arora, Founder Member of Spastic Society of Gurgaon who also caters to physically challenged people.

There are myriad of NGO's in Gurgaon working towards the overall development of the physically challenged with an intention to give them a better life. The Gurgaon authorities need to pull their socks up and need to provide satisfactory results to make their life a little easier.

“People who are physically challenged have already lot to struggle in their lives and a weak architecture in the city makes it more burdensome for them. This certainly marks a negative point for the authorities. Constructing towering buildings and plush shopping malls won't solve ths issue if they are not giving an ear to the problems of physically disabled people,” said Yogesh Sharma, member of Karuna Jan Kalyan Seva Samiti.
