Hillary Clinton condemns Mumbai blasts; confirms India visit
The Mumbai Blasts on Wednesday were heavily condemned by US State Secretary Hillary Clinton and she said that she would definitely visit India for her prearranged meeting. It would be second strategic dialogue between the two countries.
MUMBAI SUFFERED yet another series of blasts, which killed 21 people and injured 140. The blasts happened in three places: near Kabutarkhana in Dadar West, Zaveri Bazar and Opera House. The international community was shocked and lent its support. Hillary Clinton condemned the attacks and confirmed her two-day visit to the country inspite of the attacks. She said that she wants to be with Indians at a time when they could do with all the help in the world.
“We condemn these despicable acts of violence designed to provoke fear and division. Those who perpetrated them must know they cannot succeed.
The Indian people have suffered from acts of terrorism before, and we have seen them respond with courage and resilience,” the former first lady and the State Secretary said, as quoted by Indian media.
Hillary gave her condolences to the families of the victims and said that America wants to stand with India against terrorism. She would be visiting India on July 19 and 20.
The two day visit would see the second high-level strategic dialogue between the two countries. Hillary would be visiting the capital next week. She is also expected to visit Chennai.
According to Home Minister P Chidambaram, the Mumbai attacks on Wednesday were terror attacks and the suspects had used ammonium nitrate with timer devices. The families of the deceased and the injured would receive a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs each as announced by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan.
