While presiding over the meeting of the Himachal Pradesh WAKF Board, Revenue Minister Thakur Gulab Singh declared that WAKF properties in the Himachal Pradesh would be identified. Thakur Gulab Singh said that a survey to identify WAKF properties would be carried out within three months, so that same could be vested upon the Board. He said that the WAKF Body would manage and protect these properties from encroachers and administer the income thereof. He said that proper record regarding origin, income and beneficiaries of the WAKF properties should also be maintained. He said that proper norms should be laid down to provide monthly financial aid by the Board for construction of schools, madrasas and mosques.
The revenue minister said that the WAKF board should maintain proper records of the properties of the Board. He said that a re-survey of the same was needed so as to give a true picture of the WAKF properties. He said that religious institutions like mosques, maktabs, and madrasas,should be maintained properly in accordance with the religious sentiments of the Muslim brethren.
Thakur Gulab Singh said that the Board was also providing an ad hoc grant of Rs85,000 to various mosques in the State to carry out repair and renovation activities. He said that Rs7 lakhs had been provided as grant-in-aid to 103 mosques in the State. He said that the settlement of low rent cases of WAKF Board properties, should also be expedited so as to increase the income of the board. It was decided in the meeting that the Office of Himachal Pradesh WAKF Board would be constructed at Boileauganj in Shimla where 1647.90sqm of land was available with the Board.
Harinder Hira, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue, said that unauthorised occupation of as many as four mosques had been removed in Shimla alone. She said that one mosque at Bhawarna in Palampur tehsil of Kangra district has also been vacated through out-of-court settlement. Shri AW Khan, Chief Executive Officer, WAKF Board, while presenting the agenda in the meeting, said that the board was paying salary to imams and caretakers working under the direct management of the board. He said that the board has appointed 22 Imams in various mosques in the State who were being paid grant-in-aid ranging from Rs500 to Rs1000 per month through the Mosque Management Committee. Rakesh Kaushal, Revenue Secretary, as well as other senior officers from the revenue department and members of the board were present on the occasion.
Meeting of Bhoodan Yagna Board held
A review meeting of the Bhoodan Yagna Board was held under the chairmanship of Thakur Gulab Singh, Revenue Minister. Thakur Gulab Singh said that the land collected through Bhoodan would be provided to the poor and the needy. He said that not less than a fifth of the land vested in the Board and earmarked for distribution would be distributed amongst people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Thakur Gulab Singh called upon the people to come forward to donate their surplus land so that the same could be provided to the needy. He said that it should be ensured that land provided under Bhoodan was free from any litigation for which its demarcation should be carried out by a competent authority. LR Chauhan, Special Secretary, Revenue detailed the various activities being undertaken by the board.
Harinder Hira, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue, Rakesh Kaushal, Secretary, Revenue and other senior officers of the revenue department were also present on the occasion.
