Himachal Pradesh: At least 8 killed in massive landslide in Mandi district, death toll may go up
At least eight people were killed as a massive landslide hit Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh which occurred on Saturday night, as per media reports.

Five injured people were taken to a hospital while many people and around a dozen small vehicles are still feared trapped in the landslide. The disaster has also damaged Mandi-Pathankot National Highway 154 along with several other houses in the area.

According to media reports, teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and Army personnel rushed to the spot for the rescue operation but heavy rainfall has affected their rescue efforts which had to be stopped fearing more landslides in the area.

"The army and NDRF have been called while police, home guard and fire services have already been deployed in the rescue and relief operation," Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Sandeep Kadam said.

He further added, "Three vehicles were stranded after the landslide. A bus had also rolled down to nearly 800 meters from the National Highway, and four people have been rescued from the debris," Kadam told ANI.

Due to the landslide threats, National Highway 21 that passes through Mandi, has also been closed while local administration have alerted of more landslides that likely to occur on Chandigarh-Manali highway.
