Hindu saints invented nuclear technology, cosmetic surgery, rockets and planes, says Gujarat university
A university in Gujarat has credited the ancient Hindu saints for major scientific breakthroughs such as nuclear technology, cosmetic surgery, rockets and aeroplanes.

The annual diary of Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda, Gujarat has given credit to various Hindu saints for inventing nuclear technology, cosmetic surgery, rockets and aeroplanes.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the university administration has said that the diary was made with reference to books by RSS leader Dinanath Batra.

Professor Ajay Ashtaputre, who is in-charge of the committee that oversees the publishing of the diary, has said that the names of the saints were included on the basis of recommendations by Jignesh Soni, a senior member of the institute's syndicate and son of a prominent RSS leader.

"[The word] Sages means scientists. Rishis are known for their research, and are considered scientists in their own fields of knowledge," Soni told The Indian Express. "Their names should be included in mainstream education too," he further added.

The institute's official diary for 2017 claims that Sushrut is the "father of cosmetic surgery"; Acharya Kanad "developed nuclear technology"; Kapil Muni is the "father of cosmology"; Maharshi Bhardwaj "discovered rockets and aeroplanes"; Charak Rishi is the "father of medicine" and Garga Muni is the "scientist of stars".

While some claims are based on facts, though not on proof, most of them have been included without any reference to any credible ancient texts.

The trend of giving credit of scientific discoveries to ancient Hindu sages was not new but has received a new vigour since RSS affiliated people have been given the chance to head institutions such as the Indian Council of Historical Research & the India Council for Social Science Research.

The trend has been continuing despite criticism from critically acclaimed bodies and renowned faces of the fields.
