Hindus have welcomed the ban by Catalonia, which is in Spain, on the age-old tradition of bullfighting, which takes effect on January 1 next year. They have also requested the European Union to impose a Europe-wide ban on all blood-sports.
APPLAUDING THE ban by Catalonia, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed asked other regions of Spain to also do the same to end this barbaric, inhumane, horrendous, and cruel practice. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, also urged other countries of the world to ban bullfighting practice. European Union should impose a Europe-wide ban on all blood-sports. People, whose jobs were thus affected, should be rehabilitated in other jobs with related training.

Stressing that non-violence was a greatest virtue, Zed said humans had been long out of the caves, and it was time to get rid of outdated traditions. World would be a better place without these blood-sports. Sunday saw the last fight in Catalonia of the 2011 season. Bullfighting has already been banned in Canary Islands region of Spain since 1991.
Neverthless, many in Spain are protesting against the ban, saying that it had been an economic decision by the Spanish parliament - as another gory bull-related sport, in which flaming cones are hung by a bull's horns, is still allowed and has not been banned in Spain. Moreover, the masive bull-ring arena in Catalonia had been witnessing dwindling audiences - resulting in loss in revenue.
