Hindus welcome completion of long-delayed Berlin Holocaust memorial for Roma

Hindus have welcomed the completion of the Berlin Holocaust memorial for Roma (Gypsies) and Sinti people, which is being inaugurated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on October 24.

MAOISTS GUNNED down 45-year-old Gampha Kadraka of Gurumeda village under Bandhugaon Block of Koraput district on Sunday night from a close range. In a note, left near his body, rebels have claimed that he was a police informer and had been warned before to refrain from anti-Naxal activities.

“He was a police informer and passed information to the police about Naxal operations in the area,” the note claimed. However, sub- divisional police officer, Laxmipur, Y. Jagannath Rao refuted the charges, stating that Kadraka was not a police informer.

In another incident, Maoists kidnapped one person from Koraput and two from Malkangiri district on Saturday last. According to reliable sources, two persons were abducted from Anakadeli village under Lamtaput police limits in Koraput district and the other one was taken under Khairput Block of Malkangiri district in Odisha.

The other two persons who have been abducted by Maoists from Anakadeli village were identified as Jagan, who worked in Machhkunda power plant and was later sacked by the plant authorities for the reasons not known.

The second man was identified as Laxman Pangi of Bodadural village of Malkangiri district and other person was identified as Daya Challan from Sanadural village of Malkangiri district. Maoists have taken these persons suspecting them as police informers and the fate of these three persons remains unknown. Abduction, confinement and killing by the Maoists has almost turned into a day-to-day affair in Naxal-dominated areas, which has created panic among the public, particularly tribals, who are living in remote villages.
