Hindutva forces as principal enemy
A national conference was held by Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind (JUH) in Hyderabad on November 8. Apart from terrorism, different issues on national and global politics were also discussed in the conference by the Islamic clerics from across the country.
ON NOVEMBER 8 Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind (JUH) held its 24th national conference at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. Over 6000 Islamic clerics from across the country, barring Jammu and kashmir (J&K) and union territories attended this conference. 1350 delegates from Deoband, Uttar Pradesh had arrived in a special train to attend this conference. Apart from a resolution against terrorism, the JUH adopted other resolutions regarding promotion of national integration, reservation of Muslims, implementation of the sachchar committee and Ranganath committee reports, Wakf issues, United States aggression in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan, thus extending the concern of its conglomeration to different issues on national and global politics and urging most of the national media concluding this conference being one exercise to show policy of political determinism to address election strategy rather than any serious religious concern.

Conceding that there is a sincere effort to condemn all terrorist acts carried in the name of Islam and endorsement of a Fatwa by the Darul Uloom Deoband on the stand of Islam towards world peace, which condemns terrorism. “Islam is a religion of peace and security, in its eye, spreading mischief, rioting, breach of peace, bloodshed and killing of innocent people and plundering in any part earth are the most inhuman crimes” the JUH said.

In the same tone JUH invites all minority groups of Christians, Dalits, Muslims to unite under one umbrella and fight “Hindu” extremism. This way of pitching a battle against a majority religion of the country is what secularists of modern India call national integration and communal harmony. It is nothing but a big nefarious design to achieve what terrorists cannot achieve by gun. The Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has foreseen this unity of Dalits and Muslims many years before the Kashmir conflict had erupted. It is very strange and beyond ones belief that at one hand, JUH has one stand at larger conflicts in West with Christians and finds common cause here in India with their faith.

Dalits are considered backward and often believed to be discriminated against on caste basis by the upper class Brahmins. This is what JUH wants to exploit in its own favour.

Our politicians have a lot to gain from it. They will consolidate a non- Hindu vote bank in the manner of Dalit+Muslim+Christian and tribal and other faiths constituting a big majority much bigger than all the Hindus put together. But will this be a solution to any of the problems country is facing or it will complicate those more. Our problems are very different, mainly of development and prosperity, education and employment, poverty and infrastructure. These problems cannot be and should not be addressed on the basis of religious faith.

The polarisation of one religion against another or many against one is never a solution to the problem of any communal politics. To fight communal politics we will have to address all issues concerning our lives from the basic common needs. We need to see ourselves as social group of common political, economic and social networking which works basically under certain norms laid down by us from time to time.

We are basically at the same time, all producers, distributors and consumers of many goods and services. We are all participating by one way or the other in these activities in which every individual irrespective of caste, creed, religion or region forms a part of the vast group. Our faith comes nowhere in picture while performing these activities. A carpenter is a carpenter, doctor a doctor, teacher a teacher but to deny his/her share in the goods or services contributed by him/her, he/she is coloured in faith and branded by the people who want him to be out from the sharing of the fruits.

Rajya Sabha deputy chairman K Rahman Khan, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajshekhera Reddy, art of living guru Ravi Shankar and film maker Mahesh Bhatt also participated in the conference.
