Hit by a shoe, Congress might replace Tytler
Though Chidambaram managed to duck the shoe hurled at him but the shoe seems to have done it's trick. Due to brewing anger among Sikhs, the Congress high command is seriously considering the idea of dropping Tytler as a Lok Sabha candidate
THOUGH HOME Minister P Chidambaram managed to duck the shoe hurled at him by a Sikh journalist on Tuesday (April 7), it appears that the objective of this act has been attained. Jagdish Tytler, the man accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots is likely to be replaced as a party candidate from the north east Delhi Lok Sabha seat.

Sources in the party divulged that that in view of the anger and discontent prevalent in Sikh community over the issue of 1984 anti-sikh riots, Congress high command is seriously considering the idea of dropping Tytler as a Lok Sabha candidate.

Since there is widespread anger amongst Sikhs over the alleged clean chit to Tytler given by the CBI in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, the party leaders are worried over the likely switch of Congress voters amongst the community.

The CBI in a report submitted to the High Court had said that evidences against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, accused of inciting the mob against Sikhs during the 1984 riots were inadequate. Consequently, the CBI had called for quashing the FIR against him, much to the consternation of the community members and riot affected people.

This recommendation by the CBI had angered the Sikhs in the capital and in other parts of the country. Spontaneous protests were held in different parts of Delhi against this development and different Sikh organisation had alleged manipulation on part of the Congress to save Tytler's skin.

Congress now in an attempt to assuage the angry Sikhs could replace Tytler by another candidate for the north east Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

The party is worried that the shoe throwing incident could lead to further polarisation of the Sikh votes against it and this would be the last thing it needs in the run up to elections 2009.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons, Tytler seemed confident and said that the party had full faith in his innocence and would not replace him.

Congress is likely to decide on the candidature by today evening.

.Tytler is definitely inocent and should not be dropped his innocence has been proven and the congress should not decide on any other individual to replace Tytler as a candidate for the coming elections. We also request our sikh brothers and sisters to think again and if they realy know for a fact that Tytler was involved to come out with the facts otherwise please do vote for Tytler as he is reallly innocent as he claims
