Hitachi Data Systems Launches First Asia Pacific Distribution Centre in Singapore
Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today announced the launch of its new state-of-the-art Asia Pacific Distribution Center representing an investment of over USD3.3 million (SGD4.6 million) in Singapore's Airport
HITACHI DATA  Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. today announced the launch of its new state-of-the-art Asia Pacific Distribution Center representing an investment of over USD3.3 million (SGD4.6 million) in Singapore’s Airport Logistics Park (ALPS)—an industrial park created to support activities related to trade and air cargo at Changi Airport in Singapore.

The new facility, spread out over an area of 35,746 square feet, will begin operations with immediate effect. Incorporating the best of Hitachi Data Systems storage technology, the distribution centre will house a complete range of products including Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V & VM and Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 series.

In the past, orders for the customers in Asia Pacific were assembled, configured and distributed out of the Indianapolis Distribution Centre by air transport. Being Hitachi Data Systems’ first distribution centre outside the US and Europe, the Asia Pacific Distribution Centre will streamline operations and reduce transportation, warehousing costs by virtue of being closer to customer locations and Hitachi Japan, the product supplier. The decrease in transportation time will also ensure timely configuration of Hitachi Data Storage products to specific customer requirements. The environmental-friendly distribution centre will contribute to the environment by reducing CO2 emissions by 36% or ±780 tons per month less of air pollution.

“Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region in the world. Our customer footprint in this region has grown rapidly and there has also been an increase in customer service level requirements. To support our company’s growth and to serve our customers even better, we decided to launch the Asia Pacific Distribution Centre. Our Distribution Centers (DCs) serve as critical links in the value chain of Hitachi Data Systems and they are important contributors to our value-proposition to our customers. We perfect our offerings at the DCs to ensure that we not only meet the needs of our customers but exceed them,” said Kevin Eggleston, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Hitachi Data Systems, Asia Pacific.

“Caring for the environment has never been so critical. Hitachi Data Systems is a partner of choice for implementing environmentally efficient IT solutions. The Asia Pacific Distribution Centre will contribute significantly to the cause of environment protection by reducing power consumption and our overall carbon footprint. The distribution centre is designed with customers and employees in mind. One of the unique features of the facility is specially manufactured tools to help the staff pack, un-pack and install storage equipment above 25Kg,” said Frans van Rijn, Senior Vice President Global Supply Chain, CLO, Hitachi Data Systems.

The launch ceremony was attended by representatives of Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB), senior government officials, customers and partners.

“The decision by Hitachi Data Systems to site its first Asia-Pacific Distribution Centre (ADC) here attests to Singapore’s excellent logistics and manufacturing capabilities. It will reinforce Singapore’s drive to be a leader in the design, development and manufacturing of next-generation storage, server and network systems. This is in line with our growing role as an integrated node in the region for companies to drive their business expansion in Asia. I wish Hitachi Data Systems every success as they continue to expand their operations here, and look forward to an ever-deepening relationship between Hitachi Data Systems and Singapore,” said Dr Beh Swan Gin, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board.

Over the next couple of years, the Distribution Centre will continue to grow, increasing the range of technology assembled and customer satisfaction levels.
