MAURITIUS IS a small island with turquoise seas and sandy beaches all set for tourism. It offers holiday makers with everything to make their vacation unforgettable. From the warm climate to its hospitable islanders tempt visitors to return to Mauritius over and over again. A large number of tourists come here year after year from the neighbouring island of Reunion, France, South Africa, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia
It lies to the east of Madagascar. Because of its propinquity to Europe and South Africa and being reasonably priced as compared to other island vacation spots it has now become a truly-sought after holiday destination.
The best way of visiting the island is via all inclusive packages. These packages are in general for 6 nights, 7 day vacation at a resort of choice. Flights, meals and drinks are inclusive. There are commonly child and teen clubs to ensure that they have a good time too. There are a lot of activities like water-sports; fishing, Para-gliding, diving and snorkeling on offer.
For those who want to stay for a longer period, selecting a self catering flat, house or villa is also a good choice. The self catering accommodationusually has everything that is required in a house from bedding to crockery and cutlery and some of the villas are adequate to even accommodate three families with children. Charges here usually take on account of a maid service with the option of employing the maid to cook authentic Mauritian cuisine as well.
For many people, simply relaxing away the days and enjoying the entertainment at the resort provides more than enough to do. However, there is a lot to see on this lively little island:
Pamplemousses Botanical Garden: This is located 11 kms outside the capital city Port Louis. These gardens are well-known for the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies and a large range of palm trees.
Natural History Museum: This is located to the south of Government House. It houses a reconstruction of the most renowned extinct bird, the Dodo, and well as other relics of natural history such as rare shells and fish.
