RENOWNED HOLLYWOOD director Jennifer Lynch is reported to have struck a deal with Bollywood’s sex-bomb Mallika Sherawat for making a film in Hindi language. Jennifer Lynch is the daughter of four time Oscar nominee and two times Cannes Film Festival winner, David Lynch.
The film is titled as Naagin – The Snake Woman. is for the first time in Hindi cinema’s history that a director from Hollywood is taking up a subject that has always fascinated the Western people. Lynch intends to show the famous Indian myth relating to Naag and Naagin relationship.
Perhaps, Lynch was floored by Sherawat’s sways and sensuous moves in the item song Maiyyan Maiyyan (Mani Ratnam’s Guru), which stopped her from scouting for an actress who would be more svelte and befitting to enact the role of an enchanting snake woman. Before Sherawat, Bollyowood’s vintage actresses like Vyjayantimala, Reena Roy, Sridevi and Manisha Koirala have played the mythical character of a Naagin.
In the film acclaimed Bollywood actor, Irrfan Khan will be seen playing a policeman. He will be chasing the Naagin to capture her and neutralise her supernatural powers. Lynch has signed Robert Kurtzman who is Hollywood’s special effects genius. He will put some incredible graphics into the film.
The film has been produced by Ratan Jain’s Venus Records and Tapes along with Govind Menon and Vikram Singh as its co-producers. Lynch will roll out the shooting works in the last week of July in various locations and sets. Casting has not yet been finalised for the remaining actors.
A bubbling Ratan Jain says, "Venus Films is famous for its commercial family entertainers. Nowadays, Hollywood and Bollywood are busy in different film works of which, Jennifer Lynch’s directorial venture starring Mallika Sherawat is one such initiative."
Lynch’s last film Surveillance starring Julia Ormand and Bill Pullman was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year.
