Home Minister Rajnath leading the race for the next UP Chief Minister
After considering various options, the BJP top brass is said to be proposing to dispatch Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Though the former Chief Minister of the state was initially hesitant to go back to state politics, but is now ready to follow the party leadership's decision. BJP is most likely to decide its chief ministerial candidate by Thursday evening.

After securing a thumping victory in Uttar Pradesh by winning 325 Assembly seats, the BJP is now in the process of zeroing in on a credible face for the chief minister's post. BJP Chief Amit Shah is said to already have had a detailed discussion on the issue with Rajnath Singh along with top leaders of RSS.

Since the BJP's mandate in Uttar Pradesh is beyond arithmetic, the party leadership is looking for a formidable chief ministerial candidate, who must be someone who can take all communities along with him. Also, someonewitha wide administrative experience. The BJP'scentral leadership had initially thought that an OBC leader could be chosen as the chief minister since the non-Yadav OBCs had voted for the party in this election.

However, now the BJP leadership is keen on having a senior leader as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister who can fix the law and order problem in the state and fast-track development. The party now feels that the verdict is so massive that it needs someone who can help the BJP live up to the expectations the voters have placed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

However, Rajnath Singh while speaking with the media at the Parliament said that the reports of him relocating as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh are "unnecessary and futile speculation."

Rajnathis said to be upset with the party leadership as he was kept outside the party's strategic team during the polls. He was not consulted at all on several crucial issues, including mode of campaigning, selection of candidates and also on the issue of projecting a leader as the chief ministerial candidate. Hemostly remained confined to his constituency and was hardly seen in the campaign, although he is considered to be the senior most leader of the party in the state.
