Besides, it is cheap and affordable as compared to allopathic treatment. Government of India has made an ambitious plan for its promotion by almost doubling the amount on research in next five year plan. In addition, more emphasis will be laid on providing quality education to the students. The government plans to spend a sum of Rs.3200 crores on research of homeopathy system of medicines against a sum of Rs. 1400 hundred crores during the current five year plan.In order to maintain its independent identity the govt has turned the demand of homeopaths for allowing them for using allopathic medicines and surgery during their treatment.
Dr. Ramjee Singh, chairman , Central council of Homeopathy told this scribe that treatment of some of the disease already involves surgery . Elaborating his point he said that the treatment of tonsills and removal of stones through homeopathy medicines amounts to using surgery. But, homeopaths can not be allowed to practise surgery for the major diseases. The issue was raised in the meeting of the council in which several members from Maharashtra and southern states demanded that permission for using surgery should be given. they were encouraged by a recent judgement of the Madras high court stating that registered practitioners in Siddha Ayurveda, homeopathy and unani are eligible to practise surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthesiology , ENT, ophthalmology etc.The government of India has established separate department in health ministry named AYUSH in 1995 for promoting Indian systems of medicines and homeopathy. Central Council of Homeopathy was established in 1973 and after decades of study an act was made to rationalise education system. Now, the council looks after the work of granting recognition to homeopathy colleges. To improve quality education the government has asked the council not to allow mushrooming growth of homeopathy colleges in the country. Dr.Ramjee told that on the recommendations of the Council, the government has cancelled the recognition of as many as thirteen homeopathy colleges recently. For promoting research the government plans to open four regional research institutes, there are 286 homeopathy colleges in the country providing four and half years degree to the students besides one years internship after completion of the course. Three years post graduate course is also provided. There are 2,74,000 registered homeopaths in the country.Dr Ramjee says that multinational pharma companies have launched a campaign against the homeopathy but we should not be worry about it. Homeopaths in India are up in arms against the resolution passed by British medical Association demanding ban on use of homeopathic remedies under the national health scheme. They are sending protest letters to the British High Commission in New Delhi stating that the motion proposed in in British Medical Association's annual representative meeting held in the last week of June 2010 in Brighton demanding ban on funding to homeopathic hospitals and training posts available in NHS hospitals is disastrous, inhumane and out of professional rivalry. The letter has pointed out that it is a calculated attack on the simple and low cost system of medicine which is giving relief to the common patient.Dr.A.K.Arun, a renowned homeopathic practitioner, feels that the attack on homeopathy by the allopathic lobbies seems to be prompted by the World health organisation report declaring homeopathy the second most organised and practical medicine system. Dr. Arun says that viruses of several kinds of influenza's have developed immunity towards the allopathic medicines and hence the homeopathy is the only alternative.
.six months after the British Medical Association rubished homeopathy as witchcraft with no scientific basis , IITscientists have said that the sweet white pills work on the principle of nanotechnology.Homeopathic pills containing naturally occuring metals like gold, copper and iron retain their potency even when dilluted to a nanometre of one billionth of metre, states the IIT-Mumbai research published in the latest issue of Homeopathy, a peer-reviewed journal from reputed nmedical publishing firm Elsvier
