Generally students get the highest standard of homework than their study level. Even most of school administrations and teaching professionals don't feel ashamed to put the burden on primary level learners. Akash Malhotra, co-ordinator for homework in Kamla memorial international school, Mumbai says, “This is right to give them modest high pattern homework, it will increase their general knowledge skill and education is a life-skill that needed to prepare children for the life ahead.”
“I have got model of the solar system and to write the history of Hitler. What to do with Hitler’s history when he is no more,” said Mohini Jacob, a student of sixth standard from a prominent school.
“Agreed, not only students, but parents are also affected. For these students are taking professional help for meeting targets and some shops in various places are selling ready-made models like hot burgers. Actually our children are missing interested facts of learning,” added Upadhaya.
However, before anyone started feeling terrible for school students, one must observe the reaction of students like Mohini. When asked who did her homework, she grinned, “Aunty did it,” Gone are the days when parents usually helped their brood to complete tough projects. Nowadays, ‘homework aunties’ are easily available for the job at genuine costs. They are mostly educated professional, homemakers etc equipped with science matter and its virtual cottage industry. Their business mushrooms during the vacations, anyone can find them in metropolitan cities.
‘I started doing homework and making projects only last year and helped 25 students to complete their targets. This year I assisted 100 students and I too feel that they are getting bit high standard homework than their study level,” said one homework aunty from Faridabad.
Some stationary shops are also doing brisk business of selling science models as well as dedicated ‘project shops’. Parents have no choice but to drain ridiculous amount on homework given by schools. Even schools know about these establishments and students difficulties but when parents are not objecting, why would schools bother to change the system?
