Honeymoon turns into disaster for a newlywed from Kolkata in Andaman ferry tragedy
At least 22 people are said to have been feared dead after an overcrowded Aqua Marine ferry, mostly carrying tourist passengers capsized just few meters from the harbour. Amongst the unfortunates ones who lost their lives, included Juhi, who was on a honeymoon trip with her husband, Kousik Das in Andaman Nicobar Islands. The couple got married on 13 December 2013, and they had planned this trip a year before their marriage.
Kaushik had to travel back to his home in Dum Dum, Kolkata where Juhi's body came home in a coffin. Koushik is a maths teacher, and Juhi was a graduate in English literature with an added talent for music. They got married after a courtship of five years. Juhi was the only victim from Bengal, as she did not know how to swim. She tried her best to remain on the surface of the water, but failed, even after her husband's attempt to save her life.

As per the reports, it was the overcrowded boat, which led to it being capsized. There were almost 46 passengers on board, where the seating capacity is only limited to 25 passengers. There were no life jackets available to the passengers as well. When some people raised the question to the driver of the boat, he convinced them saying there is no need for it, as the weather was also clear.

Amongst the dead there were 11 women and a seven-year-old girl. Thirteen victims were from Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu, three from Chennai, three from Mumbai, one from Kolkata and one from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, reported Times of India. Among the occupants of the boat, 33 tourists were from Kancheepuram.

Lt. Gen. (Retd) A. K. Singh of the Andaman and Nicobar Island announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to he next of kin of those dead.
