Honda, Subaru, Toyota top automakers: Consumer Reports
In its annual auto industry report card, the magazine has ranked Toyota as the third best automaker, with Honda and Subaru as first two, even after it had suspended ratings for the eight models that have been part of the recent Toyota recalls.
THE BEST automakers in the market remain Honda and Subaru, followed by Toyota, as per an annual report released by the publication Consumer Reports. Recalls, according to the magazine have not had much impact on the ratings for Toyota or Honda. This seems to be a breath of fresh air for these two companies who have been raking in a lot of negative publicity.
In its annual auto industry report card, the magazine has ranked Toyota as the third best automaker, even after it had suspended ratings for the eight models that have been part of the recent Toyota recalls. In fact, Toyota Prius has been renamed as the Best Green Car by the publication.
On the other hand, the Toyota Lexus has been named as the best overall car, for its LS 460L model.
The Honda Acura brand vehicles are named the most reliable vehicles, while the Honda subcompact Fit and Toyota Prius also topped the new car best values, a catagory where total owner costs over five years are taken into consideration.
Meanwhile, Detroit based automakers remained low on the top picks report. While Ford has shown slight improvement, General Motors and Chrysler are the bottom two, lowest on the best automaker list.
The reliability of Ford cars has been called average or above average, though the Ford Fusion was commended for an excellent overall models. General Motors got the nod for promising new models, even though the magazine called itself unsure about their reliability.

Best Family Sedan: Nissan Altima
Best Sporty Car: Volkswagen GTI
Best Small SUV: Subaru Forester
Best Family SUV: Chevrolet Traverse
Best Sports Sedan: Infiniti G37
Best Green Car: Toyota Prius
Best Family Hauler: Mazda 5
Best Pickup: Chevrolet Silverado
Best Car Overall: Lexus LS 460L
