Housing Rohingya Muslims in India: Is India a dharamshala?
After the government of India decided to evict 40000 Rohingya Muslims who have illegally come into India from Myanmar, a lot of people have come out on the streets demanding that the Rohingya Muslims should be allowed to stay in India.

Prashant Bhushan, an SC lawyer and founder of political outfit Swaraj India has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court against deportation of Rohingyas. We already have 20 million illegal Bangladeshis living in India and now these Rohingyas, why? Is India a 'dharamshala' (sanctuary/spiritual dwelling) that just about anybody can come and stay here?

Rohingya Muslims belong to Arakan (Rakhine) province of Myanmar. Myanmar has almost 1600 km-long border with India. It is also strategically very important to India as China is doing its best to bring Myanmar under its clout. Myanmar'sarmy uses Chinese weapons and China wants to use Myanmar's naval ports.

Earlier, India used to deplore the military regime of Myanmar but after realising its mistake, India decided to revisit its foreign policy with Myanmar. After the March 2016 general elections in Myanmar, Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi formed a civilian government which is currently in power in Myanmar. Even though circumspection and difference of opinion continues between the civilian government of Myanmar and its army, they are still moving on. On September 6, Indian PM Narendra Modi had landed in Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw on a three-day-state visit. Myanmar has promised that it will not work against Indian interests in North East Asia.

Rohingyas have been trouble makers for Myanmar since decades. In 1947 they wanted the Rakhine province of Myanmar to merge with the erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh),an idea which was opposed by Jinnah, the man responsible for the creation of Pakistan. Within the Rakhine province they have been creating trouble for the peace loving Buddhists. As claimed by the Buddhists of Rakhine, Rohingyas have been involved in forcibly converting Buddhist women to Islam and then marrying them.

In the month of August this year, the Rohingyas attacked 30 army posts of Myanmar killing many soldiers and civilians. Saying that enough is enough, now the Myanmar army has retaliated. There has been large scale plundering and arson. More than 3 lakh Rohingya Muslims have entered Bangladesh and a large number of them are in India. United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) is all blunderbuss on the so-called genocide of Rohingyas. They want the Suu Kyi government to take the Myanmar army to task, which she is no mood to do, knowing really well that it's the Rohingyas who are the real trouble makers.

In India, more than 40000 Rohingyas continue to live. They are scattered all across the country including in places like Delhi,Jammu and Hyderabad. The first big question is, how were they allowed to enter India despite the BSF standing guard at our borders? Is the only job left with the BSF is to play to the gallery at Wagah border in the beating the retreat ceremony exhibiting dance like maneuvers to impress the applauding crowds of tourists?

The second question is, how more than 5000 Rohingyas managed to enter Jammu & Kashmir where no outsider is allowed to settle according to Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. They have apparently entered Jammu and Kashmir with due consent of the ruling government who instead of settling them in the Muslim dominated Kashmir Valley is settling them in Hindu dominated Jammu, why?

The third big question is that while 57 Muslim countries of the world are batting for Rohingyas, why not even one of them has opened its gates for them?

The pseudo-secularists of India who are appealing to the apex court against Indian government's desire of deporting Rohingyas who are living as illegal immigrants in the country, must explain to the people of India that when we are not able to cope up with our existing population of 1.2 billion, of whom 400 million are living below the poverty line, why should we take in more refugees who are not even of Indian origin?

Hopefully, the SC will rule that Rohingyas must be deported. The Central government based on intelligence reports at its disposal has told the SC that these Rohingyas are trouble creators and a grave threat to national security. This must be foremost in the minds of people who are going to decide whether these people should stay or go!
