How a Delhi service centre of Bajaj Electricals cheated me
This is an account of my tragic experience with a service centre in Dwarka that kept hanging me for servicing of my geyser, which was under warranty. The reason: I stood for my rights and wouldn't let them swindle me.

ON 2 OCTOBER 2010, I bought a 15-litre geyser from a prestigious showroom, but unfortunately, it developed leakage in the winter season. I complained to the customer service of the company and thankfully, they responded well and forwarded my complaint to their service center in Dwarka, who in turn sent a service guy to take care of my geyser. So far, so good.

The service guy detached the geyser and told me that nothing was wrong with it, even though leakage was visible to normal eye. And to top it all, he charged me Rs 250. But I had no option but to trust the service guy and waited for a day. But the problem persisted.

Upset, I called the service guy again the next morning. I told him that he had taken the money for nothing. He told me that I would get a new voucher for a replacement and I would have to pick it up from the store. I excused him for taking Rs 250 since my geyser would be replaced, as it was still under warranty period.

However, my nightmare began thereafter. I kept making calls and he kept on asking me to call back. I felt something fishy and started making calls to the customer service centre where I was informed that the complaint for changing the damaged parts is pending as the parts are not available.

I got the phone numbers of the supervisors and others and spoke with them directly. Already irritated, I also told them that I would go ahead and reach others who have more authority. Finally, they had someone sent to pick the defective pieces, assuring me that it would be replaced the next day (all this while they had been telling me that they would replace it on the day they pick the defective geyser with a new one.)

I was later told that I have to pay a fee of Rs 2,200 for the replacement. I am amazed at these people and their guts.

I still did not get the geyser, so I called up the owner to find out the status. But he wouldn’t take my repeated calls. I lodged a complaint with the police, giving them a few other numbers - one of the junior supervisors, who went by the name Pratap.  He threatened me that he would lodge a case against me for being ‘rude’. Now this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard from someone.

Most of the times, their response is that I am more educated and I should know how to deal with people. Does being more educated mean that the lesser ones have a right to act like demons, lie and cheat people? He also said that he would send the geyser as it is. I have asked them to return it to me. I would rather not deal with them and buy a new one, instead of wasting my energy on such people.

I have nothing against the company as such but the people who work for them in Dwarka are definitely not the ones I would want to deal with ever again, so I would definitely rethink before buying their product.
