Brand YOU and more
Dr Amit Nagpal
How I discovered my deepest passion? 20 October, 2011
The article is a personal journey of how the author discovered his deepest passion. It provides a cue for the readers and a step by step experience of how one may discover his/her deepest passion.

YOU GET a good job. Few years pass, you get bored. You get an even better job, few more years pass and you again get bored. After all, what is it that can sustain our attention forever. Why does everything which seemed so exciting, gets boring after a while? Why does this restlessness not come to an end? Why, why, why?

What is going to give me everlasting peace? When will I find something so exciting that I will wake up every morning eager to get up and immerse myself in work? When I lose in the rat race, I feel like a loser, when I win the rat race, I am still searching for something, questioning the permanence of my happiness? I keet wondering what would give me that everlasting joy. The questions never seemed to end and answers never seemed close.

Eureka, my mentor Dr Daisaku Ikeda had the answer. He says, “Those who wake up each morning with work to accomplish and a mission to fulfil are the happiest people of all. Please exert yourselves vigorously with the determination to live each day to the fullest so that you may compose a golden diary of life.”

Spurred into action, I left for a vacation to Udaipur. It was my first visit and for a long time I had been planning to visit Lake Palace Hotel. It is believed that listening to baroque / jazz music is very relaxing and quietens the mind. Since both Jazz and Baroque music does not have any patterns, so conscious mind cannot expect anything and has nothing to think about. Similarly, if a place is completely new, it helps in connecting with self and initiating the inner dialogue. I kept a register and pen with me to jot down my thoughts.

I thought that teaching/training was my deepest passion, and then I dug deeper and found that coaching was even deeper passion. And then I dug even deeper and I found inspiring people to achieve their peak potential was my deepest passion (good news is I have stopped digging). This is how I landed up as a Global Success Coach, which utilizes my strengths and educational background. It provides me the variety of work, a chance to inspire people, a chance to bring out their best and also utilizes my education and experience relating to marketing, brand management and digital media.

I realized that once we have discovered our deepest passion, the real challenge begins, the challenge of facing the peer pressure, the social criticism, the self-doubt and the insecurity of leaving the safe cocoon - especially when the passion means you have to become an entrepreneur.
